On Wednesday, India reported nearly 4.13 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases across the country, and there were 3,980 Covid-related deaths reported officially. The positivity rate stood at 24.4 per cent, meaning that out of 100 tests conducted, 24.4 cases were reported as Covid positive. As of now, there are roughly 35.7 lakh active cases pending. This, at a time, when testing in India has dropped to 15.4 lakh, down from 16.6 lakh tests done on the previous day.
The Centre on Wednesday said the UK variant of Coronavirus is declining in proportion across India, but the double mutant variant, found in Maharashtra, is the main cause for the current surge in Covid-19 cases. ....

Daily Covid-19 vaccinations fall to two-month low after policy tweak

Vaccinations numbers were at 1.82 million on May 1. Leaving aside Sunday (439,906), when vaccination numbers are usually low, total inoculations dropped to 1.73 million on Monday and 1.56 million the next day. This is the lowest since mid-March, except for Sundays and holidays, and well below the peak of over 4 million on some days in April.

The country had been consistently administering 3-3.5 million vaccine doses daily before May 1, when the immunisation drive was opened to those 18 and above and states and the private sector asked to procure vaccines directly from manufacturers. ....

Coronavirus cases: Covid case count falls from 4 lakh, so do testing numbers

India’s daily Covid case count has fallen from a peak of 402,000 on Friday, but experts have cautioned against complacency, saying lower testing could have contributed to the decline.
Covid tests dropped from 1.95 million last Friday to 1.66 million on Monday. Expectedly, daily case count rose to over 362,000 on Tuesday (without Delhi numbers) from 357,000 on Monday as tests increased in key states from the weekend lows.
The ministry of health had said on Monday that 13 states and UTs show early signs that Covid-19 cases are plateauing. These include Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Daman and Diu, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Ladakh, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. ....

New Delhi, May 4 : High concern for patients with Covid-19 infections resulted in delay in treatment of people with non-Covid ailments, finds a survey by NATHEALTH, a healthcare industry body.
The survey Impact of Covid-19 on patient behaviour towards accessing healthcare facilities, involved 2,134 patients from across India, between January and February 2021. ....
