Briefs: Marion area kids honored by DAR Marion Star Marion DAR chapter honors local youth MARION - The Captain William Hendricks Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Marion recently held its annual youth recognition. These contests and awards were begun to develop the qualities of leadership, dependability, service and patriotism in youth and in the younger members of our society. The following youth were recognized: Jennifer McCleary, Outstanding Junior Member of the Captain William Hendricks Chapter; Haleigh Stover, Good Citizen winner at Harding High School; Dylon Jones, Mount Gilead High School, Chapter and District Winner of the Good Citizen Contest; McKenzie Temple, Good Citizen winner at Pleasant High School; Lillian Wagner, Good Citizen winner at River Valley High School; Camrie Meyers, Good Citizen winner at Cardington-Lincoln High School; Katie Caskey, Outstanding Cadet of the Army JROTC Unit at Harding High School; Jessica Fown ....
Dan Anderson, age 73 of Hudson, formerly of St. Paul, passed away at his home on Thursday April 15, 2021. He was born on March 18, 1948 to parents George and Florence (Nelson) Anderson. He graduated from Harding High School in St. Paul with the class of 1966. He then went on to obtain his certification as an electrical engineer and dedicated over 30 years of his life to Northern States Power Company. Earlier in life he enjoyed fishing and hunting but his real passion was riding. He loved biking across the country on his Harley, affectionately named Bertha. Dan also took great pride in his truck and being a father and grandfather. He always lived his life freely and couldnât be held down. ....
[email protected] WARREN In order to help students be prepared for the next school year, various extended learning opportunity and enrichment classes will be offered during the summer. Superintendent Steve Chiaro told the board of education Wednesday that in June and July, Warren students will be able to take part in extended learning classes that will help prepare students for the 2021-22 year. “We wanted to do something different and something big. It will be a very busy summer for our students. There will be a lot of great things for all grade levels,” he said. Chiaro said all students in kindergarten through 11th grade will see where their comprehension level, skills and standards level are to determine how much intervention is needed. ....

Born in Marion in 1977, Gittinger graduated from Harding High School in 1995 and has been touted as “…one of Detroit’s most versatile studio and live drummer/percussionists.” A graduate of Wayne State University (jazz studies major) in Detroit, Jason has studied with some of the drumming community s most notable teachers. ....
