Bhubaneswar: Ahead the predicted May 26 landfall of cyclone
Yaas in coastal areas of the Odisha, the state on Tuesday issued a
red alert warning for Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Balasore districts, which are likely to be affected with
heavy rainfall.

Cyclone Yaas, which is bearing down on Bengal and Odisha from the Bay of Bengal, will make landfall near Balasore coast in Odisha - 240km from Kolkata - on May 26 noon with a thunderous wind speed of 155kmph-165kmph. While Bengal will avoid a direct hit, several of its districts East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia falling within the core area of Yaas are likely to be severely affected. Each of these districts may receive heavy rain accompanied by very high wind speed. ....

Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], May 25 (ANI): Ahead the predicted May 26 landfall of cyclone Yaas in coastal areas of the Odisha, the state on Tuesday issued a red alert warning for Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur and Balasore districts, which are likely to be affected with heavy rainfall.
Umashankar Das, Deputy Director of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar said, A red alert, i.e. extremely heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, and Balasore for today. The rainfall will exceed more than 20 cm.
The official said that an orange alert, i.e. heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Cuttack, Khorda, and Puri today. The rainfall in the district is expected to measure between 12-20 cm, Das said. ....

Cyclone Yaas to make landfall near Balasore coast tomorrow afternoon, red alert in Odisha districts

IMD predicts that Cyclone Yaas will hit north of Dhamra and south of Balasore, during noon of Wednesday, the 26th May.
Cyclonic storm Yaas will make landfall near Dhamra Port in Odishaâs Bhadrak district on Wednesday morning, according to the Met department. Dr Umashankar Das, a scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar said that the landfall will most likely be between Dhamra and Chandbali in the district.
The system will intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by Monday night. It will further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm by tomorrow morning. At the time of landfall near Balasore, wind speed will reach 155 kmph to 165 kmph, gusting to 185 kmph, along and off Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore districts in Odisha and in East Midnapore district of West Bengal. ....

SUNGAI PETANI: A fisherman is feared to have drowned after falling into the river when his boat was struck by lightning in an incident at the river mouth of Sungai Merbok, near here, early today.
Kuala Muda police chief ACP Adzli Abu Shah said the victim, identified as Mohd Nasir Marzuki, 33, had gone out fishing with his friend, Sobri Hussin, 35, from Pengkalan Bakar Arang Jetty, near here at about midnight.
He said at about 4am, when the fishermen were setting up nets at the mouth of the river about 300m from the beach, the front of the boat was suddenly struck by lightning, causing the victim to faint and fall into the river. ....
