1800 foreign soldiers to land on Qld soil amid Covid crackdown

Nearly 2,000 foreign soldiers will soon enter the country for Exercise Talisman Sabre, Australia’s largest joint military training exercise with the United States, and all will spend two weeks in quarantine.
The biennial exercise will take place mainly across central and northeast Queensland, including at the Shoalwater Bay Training Area, from July 14 to July 31.
The scale of the ninth iteration of the exercise has been reduced because of Covid-19, with about 17,000 people expected to take part.

The United States would benefit from reframing the way it employs forces globally to remain relevant in great power competition, particularly in light of persistent competition with China. Partnerships set the conditions for mutual operational success. NABL chief executive N Venkateswaran said the laboratory had been suspended in April for  non-compliance with NABL accreditation norms . 
Due to confidentiality, we will not be able to say more than that the lab was found not complying with accreditation norms and hence suspended.   
CRL Diagnostics managing director Ravi Tomar said the suspension stemmed from the misuse of the NABL logo and that the laboratory was appealing for it to be lifted. 
Jatin Wig and his family were among the group of passengers who were stopped from boarding the plane.
Mr Wig s wife and toddler had tested positive to the virus despite showing no symptoms. ....

The first repatriation flight from Covid-ravaged India lands in Darwin with 80 Australians on board


The first repatriation flight from Covid plagued India has touched down in Australia at Darwin airport - with up to 80 passengers hopping on buses to nearby Howard Springs for mandatory quarantine.  
More than 40 people who tested positive along with about 30 of their close contacts were barred from returning on QF 112, which had a Covid-safe capacity of 150 seats.
In all, between 75 and 80 returnees made it onto the eight-and-a-half hour flight, which touched down about 9.25am on Saturday.
