The Downtown Development Review Board issued final approval May 13 for designs of Related Group’s $99.16 million apartment community and gave preliminary consent for the project’s restaurant on the Downtown Jacksonville Southbank. The board voted 6-0 to approve the 327-unit, eight-story multifamily project that would replace River City Brewing Co. at 835 Museum Circle. In a separate 6-0 vote, the board gave conceptual approval to the project’s nearly 5,000-square-foot restaurant fronting St. Johns River Park and Friendship Fountain. This was MSA Architects’ second redesign for the RD River City Brewery apartments, pushed by the board and DIA staff that said in January did not fit “contextually” along the St. Johns River. ....
In lieu of its 45 th anniversary this spring, Design Concepts/Marine Concepts (DCMC, Sarasota, Fla., U.S) relates the company’s history and how it has become the company it is today. In 1976 under the leadership of Augusto “Kiko” Villalon, Marine Concepts was founded. Soon, the company says, Marine Concepts’ reputation surpassed the boating industry; it eventually became famous for making more than 85 Twistee Treat 22 ice cream cone-shaped buildings. The owner of two historic buildings in the Downtown Central Core District is seeking nearly $9 million in forgivable and deferred loans from the city to help finance simultaneous redevelopment of the properties. The Downtown Investment Authority Strategic Implementation Committee will consider the request at its meeting at 10 a.m. Jan. 14 at the Main Library Conference Center. JWB Real Estate Capital is applying for $8,706,356 to assist with redevelopment of the Florida Baptist Convention Building at 218 W. Church St. and the Old Federal Reserve Bank Building at 424 N. Hogan St. The redevelopment plan for the Church Street building includes 24 studio and one-bedroom market-rate apartments. In addition, the property is slated to house two restaurant spaces at just over 2,000 square feet each and two retail spaces of 655 square feet and 492 square feet.
