Menteri Lingkungan Hidup dan Kehutanan (LHK) Siti Nurbaya bersama dengan Menteri Kelautan dan Perikanan, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, secara virtual Rabu (5/5), mengikuti diskusi yang dibalut dengan tema “Executive Brief: State of The Art Blue Carbon di Indonesia”.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA Blue Carbon Ecosystem that consists of coastal area such as mangrove, seagrass meadows, and brackish marsh is an absorbent. It can save a big amount of natural carbon for a long time. As the biggest archipelago in the world, Indonesia has 3.2 million ha mangroves and 3 million ha seagrass meadows. With such a large number, Indonesia can keep up to 17 percent of Blue Carbon reserve in the world. Therefore, Indonesia plays an important role in decreasing climate change. ....

Sorong, W Papua (ANTARA) - West Papua Police s marine unit apprehended a local resident over possession of two endangered sea turtles that the suspect allegedly caught in the protected conservation areas of Suprau Tanjung Kausari in Sorong City.
One of the two hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) is alive, while the other one had died, Head of Law Enforcement Affairs at the West Papua Police s Marine Unit Commissioner Syarifur Rahman noted in a statement that ANTARA quoted here on Monday. ....

Hunger, disorientation blamed for pilot whale mass stranding in Indonesia
Indonesian officials have announced their findings into the cause of the mass stranding and death of 52 short-finned pilot whales earlier this year.
They cited inflammation in the alpha whale’s echolocation organ as the cause of the stranding, and hunger and lung damage as the causes of death.
The Indonesian fisheries ministry has called for more necropsies to be done more regularly after strandings to better understand these events and inform policies on how to handle them.
Whale and dolphin strandings are common in Indonesia, which has the longest coastline in Asia and whose waters serve as both a habitat and an important migratory route for dozens of cetacean species. ....
