Louisiana Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority Project Manager Jessica Diez says it will restore 308 acres of coastal marsh habitat and eleven acres of earthen terraces. “We’ve lost approximately 7,000 acres of land that have opened up to open water and this is a huge area to protect Calcasieu Parish,” said Diez. The area being restored is northwest of Holly Beach. The $32-million-dollar project is funded by the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act, and is it a joint effort by CPRA and NOAA. ....

$40.8M for marsh creation project in Plaquemines Parish (LA) February 4, 2021, by Zlatan Hrvacevic Plaquemines Parish officials have announced another coastal restoration project award from Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA). The project is located in Breton Sound Basin, Plaquemines Parish, west of Delacroix along Bayou Gentilly in Louisiana. “Allocating these funds to projects in our parish means big steps are being taken toward bringing projects to reality. Marsh creation is key. Overall, marshes provide vital habitat for hundreds of thousands of birds and nursery habitat for a variety of fish and shellfish crucial to Plaquemines Parish’s fishing industry,” said Plaquemines Parish President ....
