COVID-19 & Looking Ahead to 2021 and Beyond, Insights from Roof Tech Supported by DOE s Water Power Technologies Office, the five-stage, $3.3-million contest aims to accelerate innovation in small, modular, wave-powered desalination systems capable of producing clean water in disaster recovery scenarios, as well as water-scarce coastal and island locations.
Over three years, the Waves to Water Prize provides innovators a pathway from initial concept to field-testing their wave-energy-powered desalination devices. The prize will culminate in an open-water test in April 2022, when competitors will launch and test their devices at Jennette s Pier, in partnership with the Coastal Studies Institute.

Water Security Warriors Gear Up for Waves to Water CREATE Stage

A tall glass of water? That can be a tall order in remote or island communities or
in post-disaster situations. The Waves to Water Prize challenges competitors to solve the desalination riddle.
In the fourth stage of the prize, the CREATE Stage, competitors will submit their prototypes or proofs of concept for wave-powered desalination
systems, vying for a shared prize pool of $500,000 and the chance to move on to the
final stage of the Waves to Water Prize: DRINK.

$9M to LSU to help Army ready for flooding
The U.S. military has awarded Louisiana State University $9.3 million to help the military prepare to deal with climate-related problems such as flooding and rising seas, the university said in a news release.
The money will be given out over the next four years and is part of a collaboration between LSU, the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s Environmental Laboratory and the University of Delaware, the university said.
The military has bases and other pieces of infrastructure in flood hazard zones, the university noted. LSU will use computer modeling techniques and engineering to help the military improve the resilience of its military facilities now and in the future. ....
