USN orders five additional LCU 1700 craft - Naval Warfare

Work on building LCU 1707 to LCU 1711 will be completed by November 2023.
Swiftships is building five more Landing Craft Utility (LCU) 1700 class craft for the USN, after receiving a $59.28 million contract modification from Naval Sea Systems Command.
Work on LCU 1707 to LCU 1711 will be completed by November 2023, the DoD announced on 7 May.
The original LCU 1700 contract for Swiftships in 2018 included options for the construction of up to 31 craft to replace the LCU 1610 class, with the last delivery expected in 2027. 
According to Shephard Defence Insight, craft in the LCU 1700 class are each 42.4m long with a beam of 9.4m, a draught of 1.3m and a full load displacement of 434.9t. ....

Lawmakers blast Navy on ship repair completion record at naval shipyards

WASHINGTON From 2015 to 2019, 38 of the 51 maintenance periods for aircraft carriers and submarines at the nation s four publicly-owned Naval shipyards were completed late.   
It adds up to a combined total of more than 7,400 days of maintenance delay.
For aircraft carriers, eight of 18 repair jobs were finished on time; for submarines, only five of 33 jobs were completed on schedule.
The Government Accountability Office says aircraft carrier maintenance periods that ended late exceeded their deadlines by an average of 113 days. The agency says submarine maintenance periods ending late missed their deadlines by an average of 225 days. ....

WASHINGTON The United States must repair and modernize its four public shipyards and advance its shipbuilding and maintenance capabilities to maintain its strategic advantage against a growing Chinese navy, the vice admiral who oversees Navy shipyards told lawmakers Thursday.
“Our ability to deploy combat ready ships and submarines starts in our public and private sector shipyards and ship-repair facilities around the globe,” Vice Adm. William Galinis, who leads the Naval Sea Systems Command, told members of the House Armed Services Committee subpanel on readiness during a hearing on ship and submarine maintenance. ....

DVIDS - News - USS New Hampshire Returns from Deployment

The Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS New Hampshire (SSN 778) returned from deployment to its homeport at Naval Station Norfolk, May 7.
Under the command of Cmdr. Bennett Christman, New Hampshire returns from a deployment where it executed the chief of naval operations maritime strategy by supporting national security interests and maritime security operations.
“I am incredibly proud of the crew’s hard work,” said Christman. “Under stress, family separation, and without normal liberty, they remained consummate professionals who enthusiastically tackled the toughest problems with ingenuity and drive. They return fulfilled by their accomplishments on several missions vital to national security.”
According to Machinist’s Mate (Nuclear Power) 2nd Class Andrew Oliphant, every New Hampshire Sailor played a critical role during the boat’s six-month deployment. ....
