The Centennial Herd Area Burro Gather is necessary to address resource impacts and reduce the risk of burro-vehicle collisions and is consistent with the provisions of the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act. In addition, the gather is consistent with the California Desert Conservation Area Plan Decision as amended to remove wild burros due to the challenges they are imposing on the military installation Naval Air Weapons Station (NAWS) China Lake and the unfeasibility of maintaining a wild burro population on BLM lands when removals would be conducted in adjacent jurisdictions. ....

The final two groundbreakings for earthquake recovery projects took place April 1 onboard China Lake.
The events marked the milestone of beginning active construction on all Military Construction (MILCON) and Restoration and Modernization (RM) projects awarded in FY2020 for the repair and construction of research facilities at Naval Air Weapons Station (NAWS) China Lake.
These groundbreakings are part of the China Lake Earthquake Recovery program which include $2.3 billion in MILCON and $400 million RM projects resulting from damage caused by two massive earthquakes in July 2019. These projects are the ninth MILCON project and the first RM project to start in the last six months, according to a news release from NAVFAC OICC China Lake. ....

In 1948, a World War II-era bomber crashed into Lake Mead, the massive reservoir formed by Hoover Dam that straddles the Arizona-Nevada border. After several failed attempts to locate the plane, it was finally discovered in the early 2000s still remarkably intact. As lake levels fall, will the draw to see the aircraft finish it off?
