Thiruvananthapuram: PSC rank holders began fresh protests in front of the secretariat on Monday after the government refused to extend the validity of rank-lists further. Close to 500 PSC rank lists are set to expire on Tuesday.
The rank holders for women police constable posts protested in front of the secretariat by cropping their hair. The other protestors include last grade, LDC and staff nurse rank-holders. The protesting rank holders from the women police constable list said that they have not received any rank list tenure extension benefit and their efforts would go down the drain if the rank lists expire.
COIMBATORE: A temple to ‘Goddess Corona Devi’ has come up on the outskirts of Coimbatore, which already has a Plague Mariamman temple that came up when the scourge struck a century ago.
The Kamatchipuri Adhinam consecrated the one-anda-half-foot-tall, black stone idol on its premises near Irugur on Tuesday and the pujas continued on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the adhinam said special pujas would continue for up to 48 days but would not be open to members of the public in view of pandemic protocols.
In a video released by the adhinam, Sri Sivalingeswara Swamigal said, “following the footsteps of our ancestors, we have installed an idol for ‘Corona Devi’ because we believe God will help the hapless. We will be conducting special prayers for 48 days and only adhinam staff will be allowed to participate in the prayers.

Chennai, May 20 : With an increase in Covid-19 cases followed by deaths, a group of faithfuls in Coimbatore have created a temple dedicated to Corona Devi .
This resembles a similar situation in the early 1900s when the plague was claiming lives and then the faithful dedicated a temple for plague named, Plague Mariamman Temple . This temple was formed and consecrated with an idol after plague was coming year after year in Coimbatore district.
As Covid is also creating havoc across the country with the second pandemic turning more lethal, faithfuls and believers have created a temple at Kamatchipuram near Irugur in the outskirts of Coimbatore city.
