Surfing one of the world’s most dangerous waves as much as humanly possible will do that to a guy, but after years of thrashings, Jamie O’Brien’s body finally said “no more.” He recently underwent surgery to fix a ruined knee, and after a bit of rest and rehab, Jamie O’Brien is body surfing again. While he isn’t quite ready to surf on a surfboard just yet, we’d say a whomp session still counts. In a speedo, of course. “They went in there and they cleaned it up,” O’Brien said about his surgery. “They sucked every little piece out that was in there getting in the way.” ....

University of Hawai i Community Design Center HONOLULU A new study from the University of Hawai‘i s School of Architecture has offered detailed short- and long-term design alterations that could help the state combat the effects of climate change. Scientists have warned that Hawai‘i could face a rise of up to 3 feet (0.91 meters) in sea level over the next few decades, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Monday. The effects of climate change in Honolulu, in particular, could force as many as 13,300 people from their homes and cause an estimated $13 billion in economic losses, the outlet reported. “When you read sea-level rise reports, it’s scary,” said Judith Stilgenbauer, the principal investigator of the project at the University of Hawai‘i Community Design Center and professor of landscape architecture. “But there’s a real opportunity here to get an early start on planning for the inevitable.” ....
Apr 5, 2021 A 10 year old was lucky to only receive abrasions after falling nearly 50 feet at Koko Head Trail. The boy, hiking with his mother, fell after missing a step on the steep trail. His fall was broken by another hiker behind him. Honolulu Fire and Rescue responded to scene and airlifted both the boy and his mother off the trail. The boy was taken to the hospital for evaluation. ....
