ORNL names Innovation Crossroads cohort of entrepreneurs

Six science and technology innovators from across the United States joined the fifth cohort of Oak Ridge National Laboratory’s Innovation Crossroads program in June.
As the Southeast’s only research and development program for entrepreneurs based at a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory, Innovation Crossroads provides support to science-based startups to help advance game-changing technologies from the laboratory to the marketplace, according to a news release.
Innovation Crossroads is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy s Advanced Manufacturing Office.
New this year, DOE’s Building Technologies Office is supporting an innovator in building energy efficiency research. The Tennessee Valley Authority once again joined as a program sponsor for the third year enabling an innovator focused on energy-related research. ....

Tennessee Utility Aims for 200,000 Electric Vehicles by 2028
The Tennessee Valley Authority is beginning preparations to support a large increase in electric vehicles over the next eight years. Currently, there are just 14,000 EVs in the utility’s region.

(TNS) America s biggest public utility is preparing to help electrify transportation in the South as part of an initiative to grow the number of electric vehicles on the road by nearly 15-fold in the next eight years.
The Tennessee Valley Authority predicts at least 200,000 EVs will be operating in its 7-state region by 2028, up from only about 14,000 such EVs today. While EVs are expected to remain only a fraction of the 10 million vehicles on the road in the near future, the transition from gasoline and diesel to electric-charged batteries is projected to grow ....
