In spite of denials, Prince Albert mayor in violation of COVID-19 rules after he unmasks at council meeting
It appears to be yet another case of a politician condoning one set of rules for the public but applying another set to themselves when it comes to COVID-19 restrictions and recommendations.
This time it’s Prince Albert Mayor Greg Dionne.
During a council meeting on Monday, Dionne took off his mask while chairing the meeting.
When asked why he did this, the mayor repeatedly insisted it was his right to do so and he was within the current COVID-19 regulations. ....

New COVID-19 cases and deaths are going down nationwide after a devastating January spike, but inside many hospitals, health care workers on the front lines are grappling with their own mental health.
At Riverside University Health System Medical Center just outside Los Angeles, California, numerous doctors and nurses there have reported symptoms of post-traumatic stress.
The Defense Department has sent 89 medical personnel to assist those front line health care workers.

NDP calls for SHA board member's removal after travel to California

The provincial NDP is criticizing a Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) board member who has spent more than two months in California.
980 CJME broke the news Monday that Judy Davis was still out of country at a time when the provincial government’s COVID-19 regulations suggest people avoid non-essential travel.
When Matt Love, the NDP’s critic for ethics and democracy, heard about Davis’ extended trip, he was not happy.
“My initial reaction was incredible disappointment. I think as an SHA board member, you expect (with) those people, their thoughts should be with the families and communities here in Saskatchewan. It’s shocking that they would disregard the expectations that we all have to stay home and avoid this type of travel,” he said. ....

Alberta Recall Law in the Works Following MLA Controversies
Dissatisfied citizens in Alberta will soon be able to remove their legislators from elected office, something one advocate believes is also necessary in other Canadian jurisdictions.
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced in early January that MLA recall legislation will be introduced in the spring.
This came after Kenney removed MLA Pat Rehn from the United Conservative Party (UCP) caucus for travelling abroad over the holidays, as well as for ignoring “calls from me, UCP caucus leadership, and his constituents” to “be more present in his constituency” of Lesser Slave Lake.
“This whole story shows why we need recall legislation that works for Albertans and for the rest of Canada, so it can let us hold politicians accountable,” says Franco Terrazzano, Alberta director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. ....
