May 13, 2021 In the early hours of Monday, May 10, 2021, Carolyn (June) Wertman of Hughesville answered her Lords call, after a short battle with cancer at the age of 86. Carolyn was a spirited and talented woman who, according to family lore, may have lassoed a hunter’s trophy bear and hauled it to shore from a river in Alaska. While no one doubts the potential for truth in this tale, the actual facts remain ambiguous. Carolyn’s talent with a lasso may be in question, but no one would question her exceptional talent behind the easel, sewing machine, or stove. Carolyn Wertman was a gifted seamstress, sewing almost all of her daughter Leslie’s clothing and creating custom drapery in her homes. Carolyn also produced portrait after portrait of family members and friends using chalk pastels. She was an excellent cook, and once traded lessons in English with a neighbor in Hawaii who reciprocated with Asian recipes. ....
A chance conversation last November morphed into Shawn Solomito of Islip teaming up with Jimmy and Angela Rennick as the driver of their NASCAR Modified. In their second start together Saturday night, Solomito put the new combination into the winners circle at Riverhead Raceway following a 50-lap race. For Solomito, a former two-time track champion, it was his 18th career NASCAR Modified win, moving him into 23rd on the all-time win list. Solomito had set two goals for himself entering the season. “I really wanted to give Jimmy and Angela Rennick their first NASCAR Modified win ever,” he said. The other goal was more personal. “I really wanted to get a victory lane picture with all three of my kids and wife,” he said. “Our daughter Gabby was born a week ago and I got our picture.” ....
Defense Tries To Get Warrants Thrown Out In Janet Hinds Case In Which City Officer Was Killed Monday, May 3, 2021 Criminal Court Judge Don Poole said he will issue an opinion on whether to throw out the blood alcohol draw or the search of a vehicle in connection with the hit-and-run incident in which rookie Chattanooga Police officer Nicholas Galinger was killed on Feb. 23, 2019. Ben McGowan, who represents former Soddy Daisy postmaster Janet Hinds, said the warrant for the blood draw did not tell the time the incident occurred on Hamill Road near Bethel Bible Village. He said an incorrect address was given in a couple of places on the warrant to search the damaged white Honda CRV found in the driveway of the home of Ms. Hinds. She lives at 207 Port Dr. The address is correct in the affidavit, but 209 is listed in the warrant. ....
Torture and murder: Masvidal’s #FreeAlexisVila UFC 261 shirt explained Share this story Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLC In June 2011 Camilo Salazar was driven into a remote stretch of the Florida Everglades, his hands bound behind his back with a belt. After his kidnapper reached his desired location, Salazar was lead from the car and forced to kneel. Salazar was then brutally beaten, likely with a golf club, causing his skull and jaw to fracture. Then his throat was slit, not enough to kill him, as evidenced by the blood found in his lungs. After Salazar rolled onto his back, he was doused in gasoline. He was then set on fire, with the first sparks of flame being set around his genitals. It’s not known if Salazar was alive or dead when he was burned. ....
