Nearly 1,700 runners participated in the 19th Annual Seaside School Virtual Half Marathon and 5K race from Sunday, Feb.14th to Feb. 28th. Ranging in ages from two to 82-years-old, participants represented 37 states and various countries including Spain, the United Kingdom and Canada. All funds raised from the race benefit the Seaside School Foundation, which supports the operating budget for the Seaside Neighborhood School and Seacoast Collegiate High School, according to a press release from Seaside School Foundation. The school is a tuition-free, public charter school comprised of two schools serving students in Walton County. This year the volunteers raised proceeds totaling more than $300,000, despite the race being virtual due to COVID-19 restrictions. ....

PANAMA CITY The almost $19 million STEM building at Bay High School has a proposed name The St. Joe Community Foundation STEM Center. Bay District Schools has listed on the agenda for Tuesday s school board meeting a vote on whether to approve the name. Superintendent Bill Husfelt said he felt it would be a good gesture to name it after the St. Joe Community Foundation since it bought more than $300,000 of medical equipment that will go into the facility. Husfelt said the school district already had a good partnership with the St. Joe Community Foundation before Hurricane Michael, but after the storm the district has leaned on the nonprofit a lot. Whether it was to provide food or clothes for students, the foundation has pitched in to help. ....
PANAMA CITY BEACH To give residents something to be excited about, local artwork soon will decorate the Beach. With dozens of people present, 11 customized statues of sea turtles and dolphins were unveiled Friday at the Panama City Beach City Hall as part of SeeLife, a project overseen by the Sunshine Art Club to celebrate the community and prove art can be for everyone. I d like to see more people get involved with the arts, said Hellen Ferrell, executive director of the group. We have a large arts community in this area, but it s underutilized, and it really could help be an economic engine for this county and for creating our own culture. ....
