The swift expansion of 
Walt Disney s  (NYSE:DIS)  Disney+ streaming service across multiple countries is largely thanks to 
Amazon s  (NASDAQ:AMZN)  Amazon Web Services infrastructure, executives from the entertainment conglomerate said today. As reported by Streaming Media and other outlets, Disney says it is increasing its reliance on Amazon Web Services (AWS) even more as it continues to push for wider distribution.
One of Disney s executive vice presidents, Joe Inzerillo, said in a statement, AWS has been our preferred cloud provider for years, and its proven global infrastructure and expansive suite of services has contributed meaningfully to the incredible success of Disney+. ....

Just as broadcast tech firms were queuing up to announce their support for the AWS Media & Entertainment cloud-based broadcasting platform, AWS has been given its strongest endorsement after The Walt Disney Company revealed that it is using its infrastructure to support the global expansion of the Disney+ direct-to-consumer service.
Since launch in the US in November 2019, Disney+ has rolled out rapidly in 59 territories across Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Latin America and most recently Singapore. At the end of its first quarter ended 2 January 2021, Disney’s direct-to-consumer business had generated more than 146 million total paid subscriptions with revenues for the quarter increasing 73% annually to $3.5 billion.in March 2021 the Walt Disney Company confirmed that Disney+ had gone past the 100 million subscriber mark. ....

Disney+ expands AWS collaboration to fuel global rollout


The extension will see Disney tapping into more than 50 different AWS services, such as machine learning, content delivery, and serverless computing, as it continues to launch in new regions.
The service has been built on a flexible, secured cloud video infrastructure powered by AWS with the two firms collaborating closely to balance loads and handle usage spikes with viewing peaking during premium content like The Mandalorian and the WandaVision. When it launched in November 2019, there were more than 10 million new sign-ups within the first 24-hours.
