The construction of the $1.6 billion facility will generate $350 million in labor income
Full commercial operation at the Guernsey Power Plant south of Byesville is approximately a year-and-a-half away.
The plant is scheduled to begin full operation in December 2022, according to Mitch Garber, senior vice president of engineering and project management for Caithness Energy.
I m really proud of that with everything that is going on in the world, said Garber. Our original completion date was Oct. 15. With everything that is going on, it has cost us less than two months. They guys on site have worked really hard to keep things going while keeping people safe and healthy. We are really proud of that. ....

Five years later: Sebring water is clean of lead, but distrust remains

But Stevens, a lifelong village resident, witnessed her neighbors becoming wary of the water system as they learned that lead which can pose a significant health hazard had been detected in pipes in several homes.
It created this huge distrust inside of the community, she said.
The lead problem came on the heels of the water crisis in Flint, Michigan, and erupted into a national story, leading some to question whether Sebring would become Ohio s version of Flint.
Some drinking water fountains were turned off and schools were closed for several days. Children were tested for lead poisoning. Residents opted for bottled water. And the village s water superintendent faced criminal charges for knowing and not notifying residents about the lead issue in a timely manner. ....

Marietta City Council adopts blight fine schedule | News, Sports, Jobs

[email protected]
Marietta City Council continued the momentum of an active fight against blight and lack of property maintenance in the city through the adoption of a fine schedule for violations of the property maintenance code Thursday.
The legislators heard in Ordinance 220 the amended fines following a lapse in applicable fines for more than one year.
They unanimously suspended the second and third readings and provided full support for the adoption.
“Almost a year and a half since it expired, and in that year and a half the code enforcement (official) has not had the ability to levy fines on any property maintenance violations,” said Councilman Bill Gossett, representative of the third ward. “There were no teeth in it for a year and a half … I didn’t find out it was expired until June of 2020. As soon as I found out, I started working on getting something done about it.” ....
