Buckeye Career Center students will advance in the virtual HOSA Future Health Professionals national competition in June.
Students who will compete in the health care issues exam include Autumn Brown, an exercise science student from Conotton Valley High School; Brianna Francis, an Intro to Nursing student from Dover High School; Jocelynn Nuske, an exercise science student from Carrollton High School; Ellie Stevenson, a homeschooled Intro to Nursing student; and Karla Western, an Intro to Nursing student from Claymont High School.
Medical assisting student Janelle Poleet, from Claymont, will compete in interviewing skills. Exercise science student Connor Harlan, from CHS, will compete in sports medicine. ....

Nuclear option: The Ohio Senate voted unanimously Wednesday to remove nuclear subsidies contained in House Bill 6, the bailout bill that’s the subject of a federal corruption probe. As Andrew Tobias writes, senators said they no longer think the bill’s $1 billion in subsidies are necessary, and said repealing them will help turn the page on an embarrassing chapter for the legislature. Central Ohio's educators receive their first COVID-19 vaccines

When the time came to schedule an appointment to receive his COVID-19 vaccine, Chris Downing didn t hesitate. Within a minute of receiving the email, he signed up.
Downing, 54, a health and physical education teacher at Groveport Madison High School who is also the varsity softball coach, said it s important to do all he can to keep his students and players safe.
So he knew he was taking one for the team.
The process Tuesday was quick and painless, Downing said. He was still bracing for the poke when he realized the pharmacist was already applying a bandage and sending him on his way. He s scheduled to receive his second vaccine dose the week practices begin, in late February. ....

Karen’s Kids Campus Daycare in Marengo, has been busy this holiday season, even with the COVID-19 pandemic. The parents and staff at the center have been accepting items for the foster children in the Morrow County area. Items that were collected this year where essential needs such as tooth paste, brushes, combs, deodorant, socks, underclothing, blanket, etc. The numerous donated presents under their tree will be delivered to Ohio Family & Children’s Services Foster Care program.
