OSHA Forms an Alliance with Two Maine Organizations to Promote Worker Safety The Maine brewing industry is continuing to expand; itâs a chance to spread the word about safety in growing workplaces. By Shereen Hashem May 17, 2021 OSHA, the Maine Department of Labor Workplace Safety and Health Division (Safety Works!) and the Maine Brewer’s Guild formed an alliance to promote worker health and safety. The alliance is meant to find ways to keep workers in the Maine brewing industry safe. According to a press release, the alliance partners will introduce lockout/tagout, hazard communication, powered industrial trucks, permit required confined spaces, electrical walking-working surfaces as well as PPE. ....
OSHA Cites Six Contractors for Exposing Employees to Fall and Other Hazards $244,397 in penalties are distributed due to four willful and 35 serious violations for New Jersey, Pennsylvania companies. By Shereen Hashem May 13, 2021 Construction workers were put at risk of serious or fatal injuries to falls on the jobsite by six contractors building luxury single-family homes in Medford. The contractors failed to comply with federal requirements to prevent falls – the leading cause of death in the construction industry. According to a press release, multiple site investigations were conducted by OSHA. The administration cited the companies for exposing the workers to falls and other safety hazards. OSHA initiated three of the inspections as part of its Regional Emphasis Program on Falls in Construction. During the first inspection on October 20, 2020, a compliance officer observed workers exposed to fall and other safety hazards. ....

DCI contests OSHA violations May 12, 2021LISBON Two years ago, the US Department of Labor s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued thirty-seven health and safety violations against DCI, Inc. in Lisbon with fines totaling $378,488. DCI contested the penalties, but COVID delayed the hearing process. According to OSHA, the most significant of the 37 safety violations resulted from a complaint. OSHA determined the violations were willful, and DCI faced $119,338 in penalties. While OSHA considered the other offenses to be serious, they had not been marked as deliberate. OSHA began an investigation at the Lisbon plant after a DCI employee was seriously injured in 2018 by being pulled into an automated wood cutting machine. The study uncovered that a supervisor had disabled a safety light curtain on the device, which stops a machine s operation when an employee gets too close. ....

Dozens of cars participated in the procession honking their horns and waving signs supporting rights for immigrants. Some signs also targeted Immigration and Customs Enforcement or ICE.
