The American Rescue Plan is the latest in the federal government’s historic pandemic spending.
During an address on Monday, President Biden stressed the importance of oversight and accountability in spending the funds in the $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package enacted last week.
The “American Rescue Plan” is the latest in the federal government’s historic spending over the past year in response to the novel coronavirus pandemic. “It requires fastidious oversight to make sure the relief arrives quickly, equitability and efficiently with no waste or fraud,” Biden said. “We have to prove to the American people that their government can deliver for them and do it without waste or fraud.” This delivery will come in the form of vaccinating everyone, getting kids back to school, boosting the economy, helping businesses ....

Purchasing, HR shift to shift in wake of budget board dissolution

Cleveland County elected officials are shuffling departments as the budget board prepares to shift oversight to the countyâs commissioners.
Commissioners voted 2-1 to dissolve the longstanding eight-member budget board, but it will still continue to meet until the end of the fiscal year. The board met Thursday to discuss the countyâs purchasing and human resource departments.
While proposed financial decisions have been vetted by the budget board, the dissolution of that board will mean budget matters fall to the commission and excise board for approval beginning July 1.

Bill aims to close religious loophole for troubled teen programs in Montana

The Senate Public Health, Welfare and Safety committee will hold a hearing and listen to testimony on Senate Bill 312, which would remove a licensing exemption for private alternative residential or outdoor programs operating as an adjunct of a Montana-based ministry.
Currently, residential treatment programs in Montana can house troubled children and teens without any state oversight if the program claims a tie to a religious organization.
Sen. Diane Sands, D-Missoula, said she planned to introduce the bill after religious programs were excluded from legislation she sponsored in the 2019 session that became law and moved oversight of private alternative residential programs for youth to the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services. ....
