Community Matters in Lower Price Hill is planning to renovate several buildings for affordable housing. The rental properties would be efficiency up to three-bedrooms. The money designated for the renovation project from the city is now in jeopardy. The plan was to start the renovations in May 2021. The project would take about 18 months. The Lower Price Hill Thrives project is a collaboration between Community Matters and Over-the-Rhine Community Housing. ....

CINCINNATI — An ongoing battle over affordable housing in Over-the-Rhine has culminated in two new possible versions of a development intended to create a $77 million mixed-use development at Liberty and Elm streets.
The project has been in the works for years, but it went back before Cincinnati City Council in January after developers requested approval to expand it, adding an adjacent vacant lot to its footprint. Lawmakers voted to suspend final approval of the project for two weeks to allow for more time to work with the developer and ensure affordably priced units were included in the plan. ....

Some OTR Residents Raise Concerns Over Liberty & Elm Project Now Before Council

Community leaders gathered at the corner of Liberty and Elm in Over-the-Rhine on Tuesday to voice their displeasure on a development project that s up for a vote in Cincinnati City Council on Wednesday.
The project would create more than 200 market-rate apartment units, nearly 200 covered parking spaces, and 11,000-square feet of commercial space.
The project caused division when Over-the-Rhine residents raised concerns about the height of the building, the project s design, and the possible lack of affordable housing.
Maurice Wagoner is the president of the Over-the-Rhine Community Council. Wagoner said Mayor John Cranley and City Council refuse to see how important affordable housing is to people, specifically those affected by the pandemic. ....

Parking Restrictions Aim To Curb Violence Happening Blocks From Findlay Market

About two blocks away from Findlay Market, residents and nearby workers have been bystanders to gun violence – shootings, stray bullets and the resulting broken glass. Officials are hoping new parking restrictions could keep the area safer by making it harder for passersby to linger.
City Council unanimously passed a residential parking permit requirement Wednesday for the intersection of Green and Republic streets and the nearby area.
Councilman Greg Landsman said the effort came to fruition because police worked with Cornerstone Renter Equity and others in the community to come up with a plan to deter crime. ....
