Who was Sacagawea? Charlottesville officials dismantle 'controversial' and 'offensive' statue

Within minutes, the same group that had dismantled statues of Gens Robert E Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson earlier Saturday,  wrenched the artwork off the plinth where it had stood on Charlottesville’s West Main Street since 1919. Local observer Molly Conger documented the process on Twitter. “Getting right down to business, not even taking the cherry picker off the truck,” Conger wrote.

Who was Sacagawea?
Sacagawea was from the Shoshone tribe. In 1800, when she was just  12 years old, Hidatsa warriors raided her tribe and kidnapped many young people, including Sacagawea. Heat wave joins list of Oregon's deadliest natural disasters; the worst remains Heppner Flood of 1903 | Meteorology

PORTLAND — Oregon has a long history of terrible natural disasters, and almost all of them come in one of four bitter flavors: flood, fire, windstorm and earthquake.
But now, with the temperature getting as high as 116 degrees in the past week, a heat wave can be added to the list of the worst that Mother Nature has thrown at the Pacific Northwest. The brutal temps led to the deaths of at least 95 people in Oregon, making the hot weather one of the deadliest events the state has ever seen.
The worst loss of life from natural disasters in Oregon’s recorded history comes from flooding, and the ultimate such event, taking place in the small Morrow County town of Heppner, is linked to summertime heat, not winter rain or snow. ....

Remembering Tempest Storm, Burlesque Legend and Former Portlander

Oregon Encyclopedia reports that
she and her
third husband, fellow burlesquer John Becker, purchased the since-demolished Capitol Theatre on SW 4th Street in 1952
. Their local competitor—the Star Theater—gave top marquee billing to Becker’s ex-wife, Maybelle Anderson, a.k.a. Arabella Andre, who Star owner Betty Roth, a.k.a. Candy Renee, brought to town from San Francisco.
Life and
Billboard magazines reported on the drama that ensued: Anderson faked an acid attack on Storm and assaulted Becker in downtown Portland, while Storm and Becker attempted to have Anderson declared criminally insane and wrongfully committed to Morningside Hospital (now the site of Mall 205). Storm left Portland not long after 1953, divorcing Becker and selling the Capitol Theatre in the process.  ....
