There’s a new mural in Downtown Gulfport. It’s painted by local artist Tricia McAlvain and located on the side of Chandeleur Island Brewing Company.
On April 9, The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host its âMovies by Moonlightâ drive-in with free admission.
The movie shown will be âAngels in the Outfield,â to commemorate the major league baseball season. The film is directed by William Dear and stars Danny Glover, Brenda Flicker and Tony Danza. It centers on a boy named Roger, who prays that the California Angels baseball team will win the pennant so that his father will decide to stay with him. And fortunately for Roger, actual angels overhear his prayer, and they decide to help make it happen.
Tickets are currently available on the ACC Leisure Services website. The drive-in will be held at Southeast Clarke Park, along the Lexington Road Side.
“We re just excited to be able to see the people in here using the curling rink who otherwise couldn t have,” said Michael Ulriksen, the city’s community and leisure services director. The flooring provides enough space for two volleyball courts. It can be removed in the fall when ice is being installed and added once the ice is removed. Ulriksen said the idea came from the Humboldt Hustlers U13 and U14 Girls’ Club Volleyball teams. “When we found out that the curling rink was open and available for sports teams, we came in and checked out the roof, and figured that we probably needed the girls to be playing on something other than cement, so then it gave us the idea of sport court,” said Heather Zazula, coach of the two teams.
Roshek Building development agreement
Action: City Council members voted, 7-0, to approve an amendment to the development agreement with Heartland Financial USA, Cottingham & Butler and Roshek Property LLC, for the companiesâ acquisition of and investment in the Roshek Building. The amendment extends the deadline set for the city to construct a new parking facility, alters the agreementâs job growth requirements and removes restrictions on how the building can be improved.
Background: The companies announced their intention to expand into the Roshek Building in late 2019. The original development agreement drafted with the city promised that $2.85 million would be invested in improvements to the building, along with creating an additional 32 jobs.
