Teen in Japan ordered to pay $72K for injuring elderly woman in sidewalk collision

OITA The district court in this southwest Japan city ordered a teen girl to pay some 7.9 million yen (about $72,400) in damages in a lawsuit filed by an elderly woman who claimed that she was injured and left with a disability after the girl collided into her on a street in 2017.
According to the Oita District Court s ruling dated March 15 and other sources, the girl, 13 at the time, was walking on a sidewalk, approximately 2.2 meters wide, in a school zone to her junior high school with her classmate in September 2017. As she tried to walk past four students who were walking in front of her, she collided with a 79-year-old woman walking toward her. The woman, carrying vegetables in both her hands at the time, fell on her bottom and broke her hip. She was left with aftereffects from the injury, in ....

OITA A temporary lecturer at a public school in the southwestern Japan prefecture of Oita forged a teaching license and taught for about one year and eight months before getting caught, the prefectural education board announced on Dec. 23.
The education board invalidated the recruitment of the 25-year-old lecturer as of Dec. 18 and canceled her passing of the recruitment examination for regular teachers in October. ....
