Police officer assaulted in unprovoked incident at Lochgilphead petrol station © Supplied by Instant Street View A police officer was assaulted at Riverside Filling Station on Oban Road in Lochgilphead. The incident, which happened at around around 8pm on Wednesday night, has been described as unprovoked and a suspect was later arrested. A red Suzuki Swift car was present at the scene. Police are appealing for witnesses who may have been in the area at the time and anyone who may have dashcam footage. Roads policing inspector Archie McGuire said: “Our officers are here to protect communities and keep our residents safe and officers should not be subjected to violence during the course of their duties, as happened during this incident ”

Nine-phase improvement plan for Southend street

Motorists will be made to contend with road closures on a residential road as a nine-phase plan comes to fruition next week. Southend Council has confirmed parts of Stornoway Road will be off limits to vehicles as gas main replacement works get underway on April 6. Phase one will see drivers being unable to enter Hamstel Road from its junction with Southchurch Road to Stornoway Road. Parking, waiting, loading and unloading of vehicles will also be prohibited on the northbound side of Hamstel Road. Phase two will see motorists being unable to proceed on Stornoway Road from its junction with Oban Road to Stromness Road, while vehicles will also be unable to park, wait, load and unload along the same stretch of road.
