​​Total, the operator of the Mozambique project, has declared force majeure and evacuated all the personnel and contractors from the project area due to the ‘evolving security situation’, ONGC, BPCL, and Oil India separately informed the stock exchange.
ONGC owns 16% participating interest in the project while BPCL and Oil India own 10% and 4% interest, respectively.
Increased uncertainty has gripped the $20 billion LNG project in Mozambique, in which Indian state firms have a 30% stake after French energy giant Total declared force majeure following a rise in violence.

NEW DELHI: Days after the oil ministry sought a response to a plan to carve up ONGC’s functional sections into a separate company and sell stake in major producing fields, India s largest state-run explorer has said it is eyeing foreign partnerships for prospecting in unexplored basins but critical issues needed to be addressed before looking at changing the company’s structure.
“The government has been continuously encouraging ONGC to play a much larger role in the context of India’s oil and gas sector,” contrary to the impression conveyed by the ministry’s communication, the company said in a statement on Wednesday. ....

The country s largest oil and gas explorer ONGC on Wednesday said it will expand its upstream activity in the country by acquiring much larger acreage through the Open Acreage Licensing Policy (OALP).
The company which is in the midst of a major restructuring exercise proposes to speed ahead on exploring new oil and gas blocks in the country so that the stagnating domestic production is increased.
It has told the government that there are certain issues around structure where decisive steps can be evaluated only once the industry is completely under GST regime but the company remains committed to invest and enhance the country s domestic production of hydrocarbons. ....
