Interim Superintendent Aaron Bochniak, made the surprise announcement during DeCarr’s afternoon online class. I have seen, firsthand, his commitment, innovation and creativity, care and kindness and, most importantly, the impact that he has on his students,” Bochniak said in a statement. DeCarr, an educator in Schenectady since 2008, was nominated by Tony Farina, principal of Oneida Middle School. Farina said DeCarr is a leader at both the building and district level. Another 1,200 students missed more than 10 days of school – but fewer than 20 – as students struggle to engage with a largely-virtual learning model in the district and grapple with the countless life difficulties caused by the pandemic.
