A sprawling, symphonic rock ensemble from a country that has come to be known for them, The Besnard Lakes have been a constant at the coalface of Canadian independent music for some 15 years now. In this time, the group â which revolves around the creative and romantic partnership of husband and wife Jace Lasek and Olga Goreas â have created a respectable body of work, five albums of dense, textured progressive music, two of which have been nominated for Canadaâs Mercury equivalent, the Polaris Prize. Fifteen years, of course, is a long time to have been in a rock group, a period long enough to weed out all but the most committed. Music Industry Moves: Primary Wave Acquires Sun Records; Sub Pop Opens Seattle Flagship Store Ellise Shafer, provided by FacebookTwitterEmail Sub Pop Records has opened a new retail store in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood. The flagship location at 2130 7th Ave. sells shirts, hats, hoodies, various knick-knacks, trinkets and “objets d’art,” according to an announcement, “as well as actual vinyl LP copies (aka ‘records’) of every Hardly Art and Sub Pop release currently in print.” The new location follows the Sub Pop airport store, which opened in 2014. Sub Pop, which launched in 1988 with early releases by Nirvana, Mudhoney and Soundgarden, is currently home to such acts as The Postal Service, Father John Misty, Beach House and Wolf Parade, among others. ....

Donny and Carolyn, who also work together in various projects around Pittsburgh, came up with the name when Donny got a haircut that made them look like a Stegosaurus (BTRtoday). The pair have completely different vocal styles - but between the two of them, it makes for a really powerful sound. Their web bio describes it best. While the Indian Americanâs history making success has largely escaped the attention of the Indian media, it has been noticed by the U.S. press, and for India-West to land on her calendar took a bit of time. Born in India, Raman grew up in the Boston, Mass., area attending public school while her father did the tech thing and her mother worked for the state. She returned to India as an adult for what turned out to be an unexpected stay of several years learning about poverty, homelessness and how basic services like toilets and running water can make a difference.
