Two weeks ago, readers of this column and citizens throughout the Greater Boston region read that the Massachusetts’ Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) handed down an embarrassingly scorching decision concerning the hideous disease of racism that’s poisoning Brookline. The SJC ruling made clear that Brookline Town Government back in 2010 had violated Black firefighter Gerald Alston’s Civil Rights – that the town, represented by members of its Select Board (SB), had been involved in and party to racism.
Shortly after the SJC’s decision became public, myriad stories appeared on the front pages of the Metro section of the Boston Globe: (“SJC rebukes Brookline over firefighter’s firing”); in Adrian Walker’s column on the same page (“A fight won – again”); in Hassan Kanu’s on-line column, Justice Matters (“Massachusetts high court sets bold example in firefighter s bias case”); ....
