Two nonprofit organizations serving youth in Milwaukee announced their plans to merge.
Running Rebels Community Organization, which provides after-school and summer educational programming for Milwaukee youth, and
We Got This, an urban gardening program, said they will be able to grow their programs’ capacity by joining together.
“This is a historic moment for Milwaukee,” said Victor Barnett, founder and executive director of Running Rebels. “We are honored and blessed to have the capacity to assist a ‘brother’ organization of ours with preserving its legacy.”
We Got This founder Andre Lee Ellis started the organization as a program for youth living in his community on Ninth and Ring streets in Milwaukee. It began with a group of young boys cleaning up their neighborhood and learning about gardening, and it continued to grow each Saturday as more boys joined in. Two Milwaukee organizations that serve youths decide to merge forces

Together, Running Rebels community organization and We Got This urban gardening and mentoring program have worked more than four decades with disadvantaged youths in Milwaukee.
The nonprofit allies have supported one another at events and in schools; some youths are served by both organizations.
With limited funding available and youths more in need than ever, thanks to COVID-19, the two organizations have made a decision that could be a model for others. They are merging, creating what they hope will be a stronger operation able to continue service for decades to come.
More mergers of this kind need to take place in Milwaukee as needs continue to grow and resources become tight. Most people in need of services don t care what organization is helping them; they just need to know help is on the way. ....

Her 2017 silver Hyundai Elantra was stolen Feb. 8 from in front of her house on the northwest side of Milwaukee. Her car was found on the south side the next day with a broken back passenger window, damaged rear bumper and passenger quarter panel, and peeled down steering column.
The damage came to $5,000, and she still owes $10,000 on the car. To compound matters, she missed an insurance payment and didn’t have insurance when the car was swiped.
“They ruined my car, and I couldn’t even trade it in because the dealership said it had too much damage,” she said. ....
