The trailer was gifted to Scott a few months ago by her church, Hood United Methodist Church. She mulled over the different ways she could use the trailer to help the unsheltered community, like possibly a mobile shower unit or an outreach trailer. But after years of volunteering with the homeless, Scott decided to use the trailer to create a program that could really make a difference in people s lives. After being unsheltered for three, four, or five years, some of them longer, the habits that they ve developed are really, really ingrained in them, she said. I decided that I would make it a food trailer, and I would use it as a learning facility. ....
At the Library Station, the four children eagerly updated volunteer Kay Beall on all that they were learning at school. They surrounded Beall, talking about classes they liked, friends they were making, clubs they were joining, extra help they were receiving and, importantly, the books they had been reading. Their mother, standing nearby, was beaming. The ordinariness of the exchange would have been lost on strangers within earshot. But, for the four, the volume of progress they d made at school in less than 15 months proved anything but ordinary. She has done a lot for my kids, said Becky Tartenaar, mother of the four children.
