All the events marking the Tulsa Race Massacre centennial

It s actually accomplishing what we always started out wanting to do, that this would not just be what some would refer to as a one-and-done, or a Kumbaya moment where OK, we sang, we held hands, now everybody go back home. This is a commemorative year . even into the fall with Tulsa Ballet doing a full production and bringing African American artists and dancers from New York and an African American choreographer for a full production about the history of Greenwood, said Phil Armstrong, project director for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission.  This is the beginning. This is not just a time when we do this and never talk about it again. This is a launchpad: Every year we are going to look forward to commemorating and having some type of event that remembers and honors this history.

An Oklahoma country music superstar asked people to sing Amazing Grace with him at the Presidential Inauguration Wednesday. Brooks is an Oklahoma native and OSU graduate who once again, performed on a national stage. It s the incomparable Garth Brooks and his ability to bring joy into people s lives and bring people together, said Jeff Moore, OKPOP Executive Director.

Jukebox hero: Jamie Oldaker items going to OKPOP, but his lasting gift was championing museum's creation

This is gift season. A collection of items from Oklahoma Music Hall of Famer Jamie Oldaker is being gifted to the Oklahoma Museum of Popular Culture. OKPOP, which is under construction and is expected to open in late 2022, will honor actors, artists, authors, musicians and other Oklahoma “creatives,” including Oldaker. A “Tulsa Sound” music figure who died in July following a battle with cancer, Oldaker was a drummer whose skills were coveted by legends in the music industry. In addition to touring or recording with Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Bob Seger, Ace Frehley, Leon Russell and Stephen Stills, Oldaker was a founding member of the Tractors, and he played a major role in advancing Ronnie Dunn’s career.
