Sri Lanka yesterday (July 12) recorded the highest number of COVID-19 vaccines administered within a single day, according to the Epidemiology Department of the Ministry of Health.
Accordingly, a total of 232,526 vaccine doses have been administered yesterday.
State Minister of Production, Supply, and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Prof. Channa Jayasumana stated that 173,988 first doses and 40,276 doses of the China-produced Sinopharm vaccine were administered yesterday.
Further, 13,357 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine, 4,725 of the Pfizer vaccine, and 18 doses of the AstraZeneca (Covishield) vaccine have been administered as well.
Sri Lanka yesterday commenced the vaccination of teachers and non-academic staff of schools island-wide. The process is to be carried out continuously for two weeks. ....

The first consignment of Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines consisting of 26,000 doses arrived yesterday in Colombo, giving a further boost to the country’s vaccination drive.
This is the first batch of 800,000 doses to be delivered in the next few weeks. A total of five million vaccines Pfizer financed through the World Bank’s Sri Lanka COVID-19 Emergency Response and Health System Preparedness Project will be supplied by December 2021, the World Bank and the Health Ministry said yesterday.

Sri Lanka has administered at least 3,506,077 doses of COVID vaccines so far, as per the statistics released yesterday by the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health.
Accordingly, the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines has already been administered to 2,605,558 individuals while the second dose has been administered to 900,519 individuals.
The first dose of the AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine has been given to 925,242 individuals and the second dose of the same vaccine has been given to 372,899 persons.
