Sexual harassment against nurses at work has been “so normalised” that it appears little progress has been made in recognising it as a serious issue or supporting staff to report their experiences.
These conclusions are evident from the accounts of five nurses – ranging from some who trained in the 1970s through to those who trained in recent years – with most of them describing times when they had been brushed off or met with a ‘just deal with it’ attitude when speaking up. ....

A health minister who is the MP for Mid Bedfordshire is at the centre of a public backlash against sexism, with concerns she has suggested the government protecting husbands pay will help nurses understand their one per cent pay rise.
Health minister Nadine Dorries - whose constituency includes Shefford, Clifton and Meppershall - spoke on BBC Women s Hour last week about the government s proposed one per cent pay rise for nurses, which is now being considered by the independent NHS Pay Body Review. ....

Ben Bradley joins Women & Equalities committee as the only straight man

Conservative MP Ben Bradley is joining the Women and Equalities Select Committee, months after calling on the government to protect the rights of straight men.
The cross-party parliamentary group holds the government to account on equality law and policy, including the Equality Act 2010 and the Equality and Human Rights Commission.
Bradley announced on Monday (1 March) that he was becoming a committee member to “be part of the debate on some really important and pressing issues”.
He replaces 21-year-old Conservative MP Sara Britcliffe, becoming one of three men in the 11-member group – and the only straight man. ....

They are what folks can expect to hear from the baristas working behind the counter at the newly opened Daphneâs Coffee Shop on Main Street.
Amid the warm, specialty coffee drinks and pastries, folks mingled to experience the new Daphneâs on Friday during its grand opening.
Owners Deb and Ed Fitts have been working on the construction/rehabilitation of the new business for about two years. Stacy Woodhouse, the Fitts Foundation consultant, said it has been a long time coming.
âAnd as many of you know, these buildings didnât always look like this â they are quite beautiful â and Littleton, Iâm sure, is proud to have them,â he said. ....
