A LOCAL travel agent team say business is booming after they reopened their doors from lockdown. Barrhead Travel’s Port Glasgow branch opened for the first time since March last year and the team have been welcoming back customers as they book their first post-pandemic getaways. Over the last year, store manager Leanne Gray and her six-strong team have been working remotely, supporting customers impacted by Covid-19. Leanne says that with the vaccine roll-out and easing of lockdown, people are now feeling more confident about planning their dream holiday - with destinations such as Tenerife, Turkey, New York, Orlando and Dubai among the favourites. ....

ARTEFACT: Archaeologist Leanne Gray with the bone handled knife uncovered at the dig ARCHAEOLOGICAL remains that could shed more light on a Teesdale village’s origins as a Viking settlement have been unearthed at a building plot. Green Man Archaeology was surprised to discover extensive remains of dry-stone structures at a development in Boldron as they undertook an archaeological dig as part of a condition of planning consent. It is the second time in a year the team has carried out digs in the village on building plots adjacent to the village green. Last May they uncovered a wealth of pottery fragments and remains of stone walls, suggesting a head dyke marking the end of the village. ....
