Edmonds engineering staff presented the latest plans for the proposed new bicycle lanes in a virtual Wednesday evening meeting that drew more than 20 participants. Staff present included City Engineers Ryan Hague, Bertrand Hauss, and Rob English, and Public Works Director Phil Williams. This is the second public meeting on the bikeways project; the first was held Feb. 28. Wednesday’s formal presentation was a repeat of that given to the Edmonds City Council on May 4 but presented an additional opportunity for citizens to provide comments and input. The Edmonds City Council got a closer look Tuesday night at the latest proposal to add over six miles of bicycle lanes in various Edmonds neighborhoods. Representatives from consultant Blueline Inc. were on hand to talk about their work on the project, which began with collection and analysis of parking and traffic data in the affected areas followed by community outreach. From residents concerned about losing parking spaces to bicyclists looking forward to a safer ride, dozens of attendees interested in a plan to place bike lanes in several Edmonds neighborhoods gathered for a virtual open house Feb. 24. The meeting was led by Ryan Hague, City of Edmonds capital projects manager, and included several city staff members and consultants working on the project, plus three city councilmembers. Hague started the meeting by noting there has been “quite a high degree of interest in this project,” adding: “We want to answer everybody’s questions tonight but the sheer volume that we’ve received means that getting to them all tonight is a little unlikely. ....
