On Earth Day, Ethiopian expert urges countries to save ecosystem of river rather fighting on dam construction.
As Earth Day is being observed this Thursday to show support for protecting the environment, an expert is urging Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt to join hands to replenish the degraded Abbay or Blue Nile River Basin.

In my last article I gave a little background to the crisis in Myanmar, with some specific prayer points. This time I will elaborate on the situation there, and mention two other areas in the world – Ethiopia and Algeria – which also need our prayers.
Myanmar
Many civilians are being killed or injured as a result of their defiance of the military junta. It seems as though reaction to military rule may be uniting people who previously did not seem to care about the fate of ethnic minorities.
Most of Myanmar s nine percent Christian minority hail from the long-persecuted Chin, Kachin and Karen ethnic minorities. For a long time, Kachin and Karen ethnic armies have been protecting protesters and providing sanctuary to Myanmar resistance leaders and elected MPs and facilitating their escape to India (via Chin State) and Thailand (via Karen State). ....

Security forces Ethiopia's Oromia state kill 119 suspected rebels


ADDIS ABABA: Security forces in Ethiopia s Oromia state have killed 119 rebels, a top official said.
Alemayehu Tesfaye, Chief Administrator of East Wollega zone of Oromia regional state, said on Sunday that a further 43 suspected OLA rebels and their accomplices were also arrested during recent military operations. The rebels were suspected to be members of the outlawed Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), which is a  breakaway faction of the former rebel group Oromo Liberation Front (OLF).
OLF is an opposition political party claiming to fight for the rights of ethnic Oromos who make up about 35 percent of Ethiopia s 110 million-plus population. The OLF was designated as a terrorist group by the Ethiopian Parliament in 2011. ....
