Staten Island high school students had highest percentage of remote learners

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Public high school students on Staten Island had the highest percentage of remote learners compared to all other grade levels.
Data from the city Department of Education (DOE) shows that of 18,078 students enrolled in borough high schools, 14,190 students have been learning remotely since September 2020. Between 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades, 9th grade had the most remote learners with 3,682 students.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. With every adult New Yorker now eligible for the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, community leaders want to ensure that people of color on Staten Island have access and are educated about the vaccine.
That’s why the CANVAS Institute of Arts, Culture, and Civic Engagement held a virtual panel with Staten Island community leaders titled “COVID-19 Vaccine Concern Among Black and Brown Communities” to address the issue.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccinations are in high-demand, but scheduling a coveted appointment has been difficult for many to make. Between initial technical glitches and limited supply to winter weather that derailed hundreds of potential slots, finding an open availability has demanded a concerted effort.
A Staten Island-based vaccination texting service that alerts borough residents when a large tranche of appointment slots open up on the Island has been making that search a little easier.
“My stint in those programmes gave me the advantage of training students to further develop their entrepreneurial mindset, said Zamri (left).
GROWING up in a family of entrepreneurs, Zamri Abdullah learnt to hone his skills in spotting a solid business opportunity and making the most of it.
He further armed himself by participating in an American seed accelerator Techstars, HexGn Startup Ready Acceleration Program and Malaysian Global Innovation and Creativity Centre (MaGIC).
“My stint in those programmes gave me the advantage of training students to further develop their entrepreneurial mindset.
“I’ve developed my own training modules for this programme and also created seven more, called Kickstart, in my startup module, ” said Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP)’s Technopreneurship Office manager Zamri.
