Data from the city Department of Education (DOE) shows that of 18,078 students enrolled in borough high schools, 14,190 students have been learning remotely since September 2020. Between 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades, 9th grade had the most remote learners with 3,682 students.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccinations are in high-demand, but scheduling a coveted appointment has been difficult for many to make. Between initial technical glitches and limited supply to winter weather that derailed hundreds of potential slots, finding an open availability has demanded a concerted effort. A Staten Island-based vaccination texting service that alerts borough residents when a large tranche of appointment slots open up on the Island has been making that search a little easier.
