Along with the devastating hail storm that ravaged much of Norman last week comes out-of-town roofing companies that go door to door trying to sell residents on their company.
But using an unregistered vendor leaves people susceptible to scams, fraud and possibly more damage to their house, experts say.
As of Monday, more than 60 roofing companies were listed as “pending approval” with the Oklahoma Construction Industry Board, while 15 companies have registered to be approved for door-to-door solicitation with the City of Norman, a spokesperson said. ....

NBN subcontractors join nationwide protest

About 100 subcontractors working on the NBN held a protest in Sydney on Monday morning over pay and conditions as part of a larger nationwide action.
The Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU) said “hundreds of technicians” across the country had stopped work, including “over 100 subcontractors” that met in Sydney.
The subcontractors drove in a convoy to NBN Co’s North Sydney headquarters to continue the protest.
An NBN Co spokesperson said it did not anticipate disruption to connection and other activities as a result of the action. ....

Wellington City Council have handed out a $200 fine after an irresponsible driver allowed a load of polystyrene balls to scatter across more than 7km of Wellington s south coastline, including a marine reserve.
We were alerted to a widespread scattering of polystyrene balls around the south coast last week by a number of complaints to our contact centre, one of which got the registration number of the offending vehicle, a council spokeswoman said. ....
