Springfield Chamber Outlook lunch goes virtual; ABC’s Ann Compton will give keynote speech

SPRINGFIELD The Springfield Regional Chamber will conduct a virtual Outlook lunch this year, moving an event that normally takes place in a huge ballroom into the online realm.
The event is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 28. The chamber asks people to visit www.springfieldregionalchamber.com to register.
Tickets cost $39.95 for Springfield Regional Chamber members and $49.95 for general admission. Enterprise-level tickets, with six access passes, are available for $179 for members and $225 for nonmembers.
Outlook generally brings together more than 500 business leaders to network and hear from expert speakers on local, state and federal issues. This year’s online event already has about 250 registrants, said Nancy Creed, president of the Springfield Regional Chamber. ....

“And the sad thing is that we already pay to compete with this,” he said.
During the pandemic, Pride has paid out almost $1 million in $5-an-hour hazard pay in addition to workers’ regular wages, Bolduc said. The convenience store chain has about about 500 employees and offers starting pay of $15 to $18 an hour. ....

A growing number of Massachusetts business owners who took solace in the passage of a bill promoting an unemployment tax rate freeze during the COVID-19 pandemic are sounding the alarm after seeing massive increases in their employee contribution rate on their state tax notices.
The Retailers Association of Massachusetts circulated a letter to Gov. Charlie Baker and lawmakers urging them to find a fix to close a $4 billion-plus deficit the state Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund faces by the end of the year. RAM President Jon Hurst, Massachusetts Restaurant Association President Bob Luz and 17 chamber leaders signed onto the letter. ....

In their tireless effort to keep the music playing, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra has announced its Virtual Spring Chamber Concert Series for On Demand Streaming.
The three-concert series will begin on Saturday, April 10, with successive concerts on April 24 and May 8, all at 5 p.m. The programs will remain streaming through May 21. Each of the three 45 to 50-minute concerts consists of music for strings and percussion, featuring SSO violinists Masako Yanagita, Marsha Harbison, and Beth Welty, violists Delores Thayer and Noralee Walker, cellists Boris Kogan and Joel Wolfe, and percussionists Martin Kluger, Nathan Lasell, and Robert McEwan. ....
