Pre-schools, student care centres to remain open but parents urged to keep kids home

SINGAPORE - While parents are encouraged to keep their children at home in the coming weeks, as telecommuting is now the default, pre-schools and student care centres will remain open to support parents who need to work, Education Minister Chan Chun Sing said on Sunday (May 16).
We understand that many parents are essential workers who need to work. They will require services in the schools and childcare centres to help them during this period, and we will make all efforts to help parents and families who require such services, he said at a virtual press conference.
In a press release, MOE also said that schools will remain open for students who require additional support. In particular, parents working in essential services or who are unable to secure alternative care arrangements may approach their children s primary schools for assistance. ....

Student at The Learning Lab in United Square tests positive for Covid-19

The Learning Lab operates a total of eight outlets here, while HCL runs 12 centres.
In a circular that was sent to parents and seen by The Straits Times, The Learning Lab said it will be shifting all its classes to Zoom as a precaution, in the light of the confirmed Covid-19 case.

The chain had earlier made plans to move all classes online with effect from May 16, when the new restrictions kick in. The online classes will continue until June 13. ....

SINGAPORE: Two students at The Learning Lab (TLL) tuition centre have tested positive for COVID-19 after they were identified as contacts of an earlier confirmed case.
Both students are siblings from the same household and attend lessons on Fridays and Saturdays at The Learning Lab’s outlet at United Square. They last attended a class in person on May 8, a spokesperson for The Learning Lab told CNA on Saturday (May 15). ....

In the case of Yio Chu Kang Primary, pupils there are already on HBL, and this will be extended till May 28.
The MOE said that it is in contact with the schools to provide the necessary support, and is closely monitoring the well-being of pupils and staff identified as close contacts of confirmed cases.
In a Facebook post, Education Minister Chan Chun Sing said he shared the same concerns as parents over the recent cases related to schoolchildren. “Our immediate priority is to ring-fence the schools with confirmed cases to safeguard the well-being of our students and staff.” ....
