THE author of books on unionism s two biggest parties has described DUP hopes of revoking the Northern Ireland Protocol through an assembly vote as extremely far fetched .
Professor Jon Tonge of the University of Liverpool said it was difficult to see the unionist bloc making any gains at the next Stormont election, never mind the additional five seats required to win a vote on the Irish Sea border.

People in Northern Ireland have utterly no trust in the authorities in London and Belfast to manage the conflicts associated with the Brexit protocol, a new opinion poll shows.
The survey for Queen’s University Belfast also finds that opinion is very evenly divided as to support or opposition for the North’s special EU trade status under the protocol.
But two out of three people in the North think that some kind of special Brexit arrangements are needed for Northern Ireland. And, in keeping with the 2016 Brexit referendum result in the North, almost six out of 10 people still do not support the principle of the UK leaving the EU.

IF a border poll was held today, the majority of people in Northern Ireland would vote to stay in the UK, according to a new survey.
But research suggests just over half of respondents believe the north will have left the UK in 25 years time.
The findings are part of a specially commissioned opinion poll for last night s BBC NI programme Spotlight - A Contested Centenary, in which people on both sides of the border had their say on Northern Ireland s future.
The survey, carried out by LucidTalk, asked people how they would vote if a border poll was held today to decide if the north should stay in the UK.
