Andover singer Eric Walker on his career and debut album

An Andover musician has said the last year has been the best he’s ever had as he works on putting together his debut album.
Eric Walker has been playing music professionally since 2016, and has recorded and released a number of singles since then. He has played gigs all across the county as he strives for his music “to really blow up”.
“I’ve missed doing the live gigs in pubs and stuff, but funnily enough the last year has been the best I’ve ever had for my music,” he said.
“I hope I’ve been an uplifting force in lockdown, keeping people entertained, putting smiles on people’s faces and getting them dancing around their living rooms during what is otherwise a really hard time.” ....

A YOUNG musician is aiming high after reaching the final of the UK Songwriting Contest.
Phil Finn, who uses the stage name P.S. Finn, did not win the 2020 competition, the results of which have just been announced.
But with 19,000 Facebook followers and thousands of YouTube views and Spotify streams to his name, the 24-year-old is looking forward to trying again this year.

Happy I Walk in August and the song I entered wasn’t from that. So I’ve got quite a collection of songs I can choose from to find one that will hopefully do well. ....

Birmingham welcomes Year of the Metal Ox with online concert

Music lovers have the chance to attend a special online concert from the University of Birmingham marking the Chinese New Year with a magical fusion of East and West.
World-class pianist Di Xiao will be joined by renowned cellist Jiaxin Cheng and 18-year-old singer-songwriter to help the University’s China Institute to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Metal Ox with a mix of traditional Chinese and Western pieces.
The event streams on YouTube from Monday, 8 February. It will also premiere on the University’s page at 13.00 GMT on Wednesday 10 February. ....

Local singer songwriter, 18, wins prestigious national song writing contest
A teenager from the Burnham-On-Sea area is celebrating after winning a prestigious award in a nationwide song writing competition.
Becca Brothwell, 18, from Crickham near Wedmore, has won the singer songwriter category in the UK Songwriting Contest.
Her song, called Paper Chapels, was written and recorded in her room during lockdown. It’s the first song that Becca has written and she says she is “completely overwhelmed” to win.
She says: “writing music is a great way of keeping a healthy mind during these really difficult times.”
The UK Songwriting Contest directors and judges include top award-winning producers and songwriters who have worked closely with many of the world’s major artists including Elton John, Robbie Williams, Oasis and Led Zeppelin. ....

Dennis on song to win major songwriting contest thanks to lyrics praising Covid-19 heroes

Dennis Higgins won the contest with his Covid-19 based lyrics.
The competition runs on an annual basis and attracts almost 10,000 entries from more than 80 different countries each year.
Dennis Higgins, who lives with his wife on Broadmanor, only started to write lyrics in October 2019 when he penned what he hoped would be a Christmas hit.
The victory is even more remarkable as Dennis does not have any equipment to play music apart from his computer.
His entry in the Crisis Lyrics Category was one of five that he submitted, four of which reached the finals.
Angels in Disguise, the winning entry, was written as a tribute to all those persons who have been prepared to sacrifice their own safety during the Covid-19 pandemic to help others in need. ....
