Debbie was homeless, addicted to Meth, and hopeless. Now, sheâs clean, saving money for a new apartment, and overflowing with hope. Itâs all because she walked through the doors of Seattleâs Union Gospel Mission, a place where the words of the Bible are lived out daily.
Inside the Mission, Debbie learned she was loved. She met Jesus followers who demonstrated His unconditional love and treated her with dignity. Debbie began to blossom in the knowledge that she was made in the image of God and precious to Him. Now, she works behind the front desk, offering the hope she found to others who are embarking on their own journeys. ....

Homeless woman chooses bus shack over refuge in shelters, despite 'brutal, brutal' cold

Kathleen Napokesik stays in bus shelters to keep warm, sometimes sleeping there overnight. During the day, she and her friends ride Winnipeg Transit to escape the brutal cold.(Gary Solilak/CBC)
Armed with a pile of blankets and a backpack on her lap everything she owns Kathleen Napokesik is taking shelter inside a freezing, unheated Winnipeg bus shack, even though she knows she might die there.
No income, no place to live, just homeless … and it hurts. Especially being in a wheelchair, she said.
The 47-year old has a spinal cord injury and trouble moving her legs. It s –30 C, but she and her nephew have already spent several hours huddled together inside the bus shelter on Portage Avenue in front of the Mountain Equipment Co-Op. ....
