Unite Students Extends LSAV JV With GIC By Ten Years
LONDON (dpa-AFX) - Student lodging owner and developer Unite Group Plc (UTG.L) announced Tuesday the extension of its joint venture with GIC - London Student Accommodation Joint Venture or LSAV - by ten years to September 2032.
The company also announced an agreement to settle its performance fee from the LSAV in cash during the fourth quarter.
LSAV was established in September 2012 with a ten-year term maturing in September 2022. The latest ten-year extension followed a successful partnership that has delivered strong development returns and growth in rental income.
Both Unite and GIC will retain a 50 percent equity stake in LSAV, which had net assets of 814 million pounds as of December 31, 2020. In this, Unite share was 407 million pounds. ....

AS INDUSTRIAL action on the Sella Ness harbour tugs gets set to commence on 17 May, positions on both sides of the dispute appear to be hardening.
The chairman of the local branch of Unite, John Halcrow, has now accused the towage workers’ employer, Shetland Islands Council, of making misleading statements.

Shetland News, the council’s chief executive Maggie Sandison said that it was not possible for the tug workers to start “unpicking” their special contractual arrangements with the council without undoing the entire set-up.
The towage workers are aggrieved that under current arrangements they are not entitled to the equivalent of a month’s wage in recognition of 25 years of service to the council. ....

The strike by over 400 Manchester bus drivers against fire and rehire contracts being imposed by Go North West has reached its eleventh hour, with just over a week until the deadline for mass dismissal on May 8.
The strike action, which has entered its eighth week, is one of the longest disputes for over a generation on the national bus network. It testifies to the determination of workers to withstand a vicious assault on their terms and conditions imposed by dictatorial methods.
