A teacher has smashed the world record for the most henna armbands to be completed in an hour. Samina Hussain, from Blackburn, was aiming to beat the record of 511 set by a London henna artist. Samina completed 600 henna armbands at Wensley Fold CE Primary Academy managing to get past the 511 mark after just 52 minutes. The record-breaking attempt was supported by community group One Voice Blackburn. Samina said: “I have been a henna artist for over twenty years, whilst managing a full time teaching career for the past 18 years. “In order to improve my work-life balance and after reassessing my priorities over the pandemic, I decided I wanted to utilise my creative side more. ....
13-year-old to host Blackburn Community awards night A 13-year-old Blackburn schoolgirl will host an awards event later this year. Sara Hussain, a student at Witton Park Academy will be part of the hosting team at the One Voice Annual Dinner and 1V Awards taking place in King George’s Hall in October 2021. The youngster is part of the West End Girls (WEGs) run by One Voice Blackburn. The charity celebrates it’s tenth anniversary with the event entitled ‘The Show Must go On’, recognising the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic over the last 18 months. Students from McNally Music Tuition have joined forces with One Voice Blackburn to form a band named ‘BANNED Cohesion’ in part of a new council campaign where people discuss what they are most looking forward to when restrictions are fully lifted. The newly formed band has created a diverse and inclusive ensemble, with the grouping having been able to practise together in May as lockdown restrictions eased. The council’s ‘Picture This’ campaign features local people talking about the things they miss doing due to Coronavirus. Phil McNally, owner of the Sudell Cross music school, said the band brings people with a passion for music together. ....
