Local artist, Marie Lyons, painted a beautiful array of oil paintings while cocooning during the initial days of the Covid-19 pandemic last year. The Rath woman later sold the paintings to help raise funds for Offaly Hospice and last week, the Tribune was there to see her present a cheque for €6,200 towards the fundraising efforts to construct a hospice in the Midlands. ....
Fingers crossed for Offaly Hospice 100k run Reporter: ); THEY have had a number of false starts but now it looks like a 100k event planned for over two days just might go ahead. The run, which is in aid of Offaly Hospice, was originally to have taken place earlier in the year but Covid called a halt to plans on no less than two occasions. Now six intrepid runners led by John Bennett, have their fingers crossed for May 22 and 23. They include Will Faulkner of Midlands 103, Noel Flynn Kilcormac, Vinnie Devery, Ferbane, Pat Hill, Pollough, Michael Melia, Michael Guinan and John Bennett all from Cloghan. ....

John Wallace, Trish Clear, Dolores Wallace, Tony Wallace with Andrea after completing the climb. ); ); LAST Sunday morning, April 25 saw Andrea Scally climbing Croghan Hill for the 25th time during the month of April. This saw her exceeding the height of Mount Blanc in the process. Andrea took on the most challenging biffo challenge to date supporting the two worthy charities, Offaly Hospice and Offaly Search and Recovery team. A total of 21.5 climbs would have equalled the height of Mount Blanc but Andrea decided to climb it 25 times. ....
