(Photo: Business Wire) Nordic Design Diplomacy boldly combines traditional diplomacy with informal dialogue, to explore how design is used to share different perspectives on culture and values. Reykjavík Winter Lights Festival Opens Today

Reykjavík Winter Lights Festival Opens Today Hallgrímskirkja church. mbl.is/Kristinn Magnússon Vala Hafstað The annual Reykjavík Winter Lights Festival opens today and continues through Sunday, Morgunblaðið reports. Its format this year is different from that of previous years, due to COVID-19-related restrictions. Therefore, there will be no formal opening ceremony or crowded events, such as normally have been held at the city’s museums and swimming pools. Instead, the winter lights walking path will be the main attraction. The map, which you can view here, shows the location of 23 light installations that will be projected onto buildings and windows, as well as alleys, between the hours of 6 pm and 9 pm every night of the festival. The path extends from Hallgrímskirkja church to Austurvöllur square and all the way to Reykjavík City Hall.

Ýrúrarí uses knitted body parts to give clothes a character of their own

Ýrúrarí uses knitted body parts to give clothes a character of their own Textile designer Ýrúrarí, who is nominated for this year s Icelandic Design Award, gives new life to worn-out clothes by adding playful knitted details such as eyes, tongues and fingers. The Icelandic designer, whose real name is Ýr Jóhannsdóttir, likes to give character to sweaters and other garments which are old or broken and would otherwise have been thrown away. This often involves adding cartoon-style facial features and other body parts, although she sometimes includes food references or pattern details. I give them a strong character to make them more memorable, she told Dezeen.
