Boone County Sheriff s K-9 Loki honored during memorial service BELVIDERE Boone County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Loki was honored Saturday as a beloved member of law enforcement who had a successful career specializing in narcotics policing. Loki’s death last month in an alcohol-related traffic crash triggered an outpouring of grief during a funeral service outside of the Boone County Public Safety Building that was attended by officers from police departments across northern Illinois. “In a year where it seemed like the hits just keep on coming, it’s at times like these when you realize how much love and support there still is in communities like this one,” Boone County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. BOONE COUNTY, ILLINOISâThe Boone County Sheriffâs Office announced on Sunday that one to its K9 dogs died when a suspected drunk driver crashed into the back of a squad car on Interstate 90. At around 1:30 a.m., deputy Robert Rosenkranz and K9 Loki conducted a traffic stop on I-90 near Irene Road when a suspected drunk driver struck the back of Rosenkranzâs squad vehicle. The impact caused the squad vehicle to crash into the vehicle that was initially part of the traffic stop, according to the Illinois State Police. State police said a 53-year-old man and a 50-year-old woman were injured and transported for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. ....

The Boone County Sheriffâs Office says at approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Boone County Deputy Robert Rosenkranz and K9 Loki were conducting a traffic stop on the right shoulder of Interstate 90 near Irene Road when Millare struck the rear of the Deputyâs squad car. ....

(WLS) A Boone County K-9 was killed in the line of duty early Sunday morning after a suspected drunk driver rear-ended a squad vehicle on Interstate 90, the sheriff s office posted on Facebook. Officials said the K-9, named Loki, and his handler were conducting a traffic stop on the right shoulder of I-90 near Irene Road at approximately 1:30 a.m. when a white Lincoln limousine struck the rear of the deputy s fully marked squad car. The force of the impact pushed the squad car into the vehicle the deputy had pulled over. The deputy was out of the vehicle at the time and only received minor injuries from flying debris. However, K-9 Loki was secured in a kennel inside the vehicle at the time of the accident and was transported to an emergency vet clinic in Rockford where he later passed, according to the post. ....
